Is there danger in eating ice?
Ok, so I"m 29 weeks pg and have been really craving ice. I know why I"m craving it, low iron, etc. But I find myself wondering if eating too much ice can do damage to my pouch? Any thoughts??

IDK, Chris. I think I've heard someone say along the line that it causes our stomaches to produce extra acid. I've been feeling really crappy lately (wondering if I have an ulcer) and today I almost passed out. That's what has me wondering.

Craving ice is a sign of anemia, which can be dangerous. That's the immediate concern. The other that you mentioned is possible ulcer. If you have any inkling you have an ulcer, get it checked out. I speak as someone who had a perforated ulcer. I didn't even know I had one until it perforated and started spilling stomach acid into my abdomen. WORST pain I've ever had, including three c-sections and my RNY. It required a helicoptor trip to Carmel and emergency surgery. You don't want that.
I already know I'm anemic Linda, just wondering if it's getting worse? As for the ulcer, I can't be scoped right not because of the pregnancy, so not sure what they'd do. I'm calling all my docs (Evanson and OB this morning).

I would think that it would help to prevent dehydration.

I eat ice non-stop. I was given ice chips i the hospital too (that whole 48 hours is still reallllly hazy). Dr. Jones explained tha****er and other liquids only stay in our stomach for so long (not very long for us, because our pouch is much smaller than an ordinary stomach) and that the ice would melt before it has time to do harm.
This is pretty much repeating what everyone above me has said, sorry, but i get very excited when I can put my 2 cents in!! I usually have no clue what is going on!!
